In 1949 the family relocated to England where Mynhardt specialised in surgery at Oxford. They returned to South Africa and settled on a small-holding, Altemit, in Brakpan, Johannesburg. Actively involved in the community, Myhardt served on the town council and as mayor. He was president of the East Rand Red Cross and established the Frank Mynhardt Tehuis vir Bej rdes, a facility for the aged, as well as the Life Dalview Clinic. A rugby enthusiast, he was lifelong vice-president of the South African Rugby Board. He emigrated with his family to the US in 2002, where he saw out his retirement. Dr. Heime Geffen (3rd.August 1930), passed away on the 27th October, 2008, at the Hospice Niagara, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, having fought bravely and to the end, against leukaemia. Medical School, where he rose to be President of the Students Medical Council, and was an active member of the African Medical Scholarship Trust Fund. He set up a Family Practice in Springs, providing service to all patients across the racial divides, and also administered anaesthesia at the Geduld Hospital. Because of his liberal and progressive political outlook, at times outspoken, he felt, and was threatened, by the ruling apartheid authorities. When the opportunity arose in 1973 to migrate to Canada, Dr. Geffen, his wife Ann, and their three children Martin, Vivienne, and Terri left S.A. Prof. John Forsyth Lownie died on 2 June 2008 at the age of 65 after a courageous two-year battle against cancer.
