β€ FreeCAD’s weakness is that it tries to be everything for everybody, so you just have to figure out what parts are useful to your workflow, and ignore the rest. There’s a YouTube channel, Joko Engineering, that has many tutorials for FreeCAD, just because of this. Well, you can change it in many ways and there is at least one fork whose owner has made a β€œmore modernβ€ look. Personally, I don’t even look at the colors, I want to make 3D solids not look at purty pictures. I don’t use Fusion, and I intend to keep not using Fusion. I’ll will continue with Fusion 360, even with the hobby limitations, I don’t want to go back to DSM. The critical thing is that Fusion 360. Similar tools use a non-destructive parametric workflow. The whole object recalculates from the new design. The alternative for autodesk may be to show Ads in the software, or collect data about what you're designing for ad profiles. I'm sure people would love that as an alternative. With software, practically everything is a sort of NRE- it's a fixed cost, no matter how many copies you make.
Initially Autodesk was going to eliminate STEP export but they stepped back after the community reaction. I have no link at all with Autodesk. I do not have privileged information from them. Once you click on the license you want, it’s just a question of signing up with an email and follow the usual sign-up steps. Have in mind it is only available for Windows and Mac. Free startup licenses for Fusion 360 are valid for one year, but can be renewed annually . SolidWorks does offer a student license. I’ve heard they have an hobbyist license. But they do want their pound of flesh, and are very proprietary, so I suggest taking a hard look at the libre stuff first. The costs to add new features and fix bugs etc should be paid for by the previous versions purchase and the profits from techsupport for the commercial clients. Which then puts the onus on the developer to make the next version full of useful features. Serious quality of life improvements so I WANT the new version enough to pay for it. You are paying over. Over for a constantly evolving product. I don’t like it either but as a software developer I do recognize that it takes time/money to add new features. These days there are lots of programmers. Lots of open source projects that AutoCAD should be worried. Autodesk already proved they were out of touch with users when they moved Eagle to subscription-only. They seem desperate to monetise autodesk estudiantes colombia at the cost of their user-base and preexisting goodwill. They promised to never remove features from the entry tier. They lied, and have broken trust with many thousand of people who invested their time and energy to learn this tool.
